Curbing Global Poverty

The situation whereby human beings lack access to basic necessary needs required for survival can be known as global poverty. Some basic needs include food, shelter and clothing. Although some people may still have minimal access to the above they may still be said to be facing global poverty if they don’t have access to clean water, proper nutrition, education and health care. Global poverty is not a moral issues but a situation arising from corruption and poor government measures which only favor the rich in the community.

Global poverty is really affecting people and here are some of the sad facts about it. One, almost half of the world population, up to 3 billion people live on less than 2.5 dollar a day while almost 1.3 billion people live on less than 1.25 dollars a day. It is sadder to know that over 22000 children die daily due to hunger related issues. Similarly more than 1 billion people lack access to clean water for drinking, close to 870 million people lack enough food to eat, over 165 million children suffer from malnutrition since they lack proper diet and worst of all is that hunger alone claims more deaths than malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS diseases combines making it the leading cause of death in the world.

Surprisingly only 30 billion needs to be funded towards this project and see these calamities come to an end; and truly this has proved hard to raise, but governments like the US are raising over 530 billion per year to cater for the military’s budget. We commend some of the humanitarian and nongovernmental organizations who have gone further to show their support for the affected and have shown much efforts in trying to eradicate poverty in the third world countries.; government support and interest should be seen as well in trying to curb poverty.

Volunteers as well are required in large numbers to avail themselves and support their fellow brothers and sisters facing poverty. Aid from the developing countries as well is of major assistance and an increases portion will see eradication of suffering as well as reduction in the number of deaths caused by poverty. Personal help and assistance to the poor is also encouraged where possible to curb poverty at basic levels.

However equality is the only major factor that will see end of poverty. No matter how many economic measures that will be put in place, it will never be possible to end poverty without ensuring equal share among all the people. And this will have to start from the basic levels if we need to see total eradication of poverty.

Corporations around the world can also be of major help in trying to eradicate poverty by improving resources at basic levels. If they endorse peace each and everyone will be in a position to work and earn a living without fear of losing his or her life in battle thus they will be able to support their families. These corporations can also offer jobs to these people which will provide extra cash to cater for their expenses. Similarly, if they reduce the cost of the goods they manufacture, more people will have access to products they could not afford before.
